This is awesome. If the tape didn't work, you could also eliminate some of the futzing with the real deal if there was some kind of perpendicular attachment that you could slide down the tape so that you can find out not only the length of one side, but then mark the middle spot up the wall a ways for where you want to hang your picture or whatever.
