Three Chinese brothers are hired to work the rails to unite the east with the west. A life of hardship, but also of love -- a new baby boy, born to the eldest brother, Tian, and his wife. Having decided not to attend college, Balfour works the Dairy Queen in Kfar Saba. Every day, he sees the people who knew him -- his old friends, his family, his teachers, his priests -- come in and pass their fairly vocal judgement of his decision not to make something out of his life. But Balfour just... doesn't want anything. He's read books and seen movies and from what everyone's said and done, none of it seems all that terribly interesting. With his conversations with everyone that come in and out of his life, particularly an older gentleman who has ordered the same meal every day without fail for the past 11 years, we discover that we may need people who do nothing... just as much as we need people who do something. Enid and whatever the hell S.J's name was decide not to go to college and just get menial jobs instead. Enid gets close to a middle-age guy and learns about herself in their missteps. She fantasizes (I can't spell) about leaving this life and finding a life elsewhere. She finds comfort in the man who is at the same bus stop everyday despite it no longer being a serviced stop.
Yeah, sure, facts, whatever. Tonally different, much less angst and scene drama and the main character doesn't change his mind so much as change everyone else's.
